Hospice gets £30,000 donation boost

A leading insurance broker celebrated its 30th anniversary recently by donating £30,000 to Northern Ireland Hospice Care.

Abbey Insurance made the donation to help towards the purchase of new computer software which will assist in the fast and efficient recording and retrieval of patient information, freeing up valuable time for the direct care of patients.

Commenting on how the new system would make a big difference to the Hospice, staff nurse Ken McMullan said: “Keeping accurate patient records and prescriptions, which change frequently when patients have a life limiting condition, is very important. Our previous systems were outdated, taking too much time to administer and update. This new program will enable quick and efficient transfer of records between departments and with our Community Teams.

“Doctors and Nurses at the Children’s Hospice providing care across Northern Ireland can now also link into the main Hospice system saving time and costs."

Dennis Storey, a Partner at Abbey Insurance Brokers added: “We searched for something unique to do in celebration of our 30th anniversary. As many of our staff contribute towards a monthly donation to the Hospice, and the Hospice is a cause that touches many people, the Partners decided to help both adults and children with life limiting illnesses through this donation.”
