Reliance Gene Medix Announces Job Losses

Fianna Fáil TD for Offaly Barry Cowen has called on the Government to do more to ensure the IDA attracts investment into Offaly and the wider Midlands Region.

Reliance Gene Medix, a pharmaceutical company based in Tullamore, announced that it is to cease operations later this year.

Deputy Cowen commented: "The staff at Reliance Gene Medix has been informed in recent days that the company is set to close in the coming weeks with the loss of all jobs. It is a difficult time for workers and their families along with the wider community that relies on these jobs.

"This latest jobs loss clearly demonstrates that more needs to be done to support local enterprise in Offaly and the wider Midlands region. Fianna Fáil has been highlighting over the last number of years that the Government is failing to provide the necessary supports and incentives to encourage entrepreneurship in areas such as Offaly. This latest loss of jobs vindicates our position.

"I have written to the IDA to highlight the closure and to ask them to take whatever steps are necessary to secure a new client for the Business and Technology Park in Tullamore. New enterprise needs to be attracted into the park to help provide replacement jobs for the community."
