NI farmers asked to help evaluate EU schemes
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has called on the help of local farmers in evaluating future EU-funded schemes.
The Department is asking selected farmers to take part in a telephone interview which will provide valuable feedback to the European Commission on the progress of schemes.
The evaluation of the EU-funded Programmes is a requirement of the European Commission and will involve elements of the NI Programme for Building Sustainable Prosperity, the EU Programme for Peace and Reconciliation and the Rural Development Regulation Plan.
It will assess the impact of the various schemes using indicators provided by the European Commission. These schemes are half way through their life cycle and the feedback provided will assist the EC in assessing the impact of its funding and in planning the future of the schemes through highlighting strengths and weaknesses.

Peace Centre Funding Withdrawn
European Union funding of £18m for the peace centre at the former Maze prison has been withdrawn, after parties were unable to agree on the details surrounding the development. The Special European Programmes Body said it had removed the financial support after consulting with the Office of the First and deputy First Minister.

Mark Durkan was speaking during a visit to the Government funded Sure Start project, on Belfast’s Shankill Road, where he saw the work being undertaken to improve social conditions of both parents and children.
