SDLP Calls For 'Critical Incident Analysis' Following Death Of Ronan Hughes

The SDLP is calling for a "critical incident analysis" following the death of schoolboy Ronan Hughes.

Ronan, 17, from the Coole Road area in Coalisland died on Friday 5 June.

Upper Bann MLA Dolores Kelly said there is a need to identify what happened in Ronan's case to prevent it from happening again.

Mrs Kelly said: "The tragic death of Ronan Hughes highlighted deeply concerning issues around child protection and more specifically around internet safety.

"Despite all of our safeguards, policies and procedures, despite public campaigns and dedicated organisations, Ronan still found himself in a position where he believed he had no way out. Such an incident demands that we do all in our power to find out how this happened and how we can prevent it happening again.

"I am glad that the Minister remains open to my call for a critical incident analysis on Ronan's case but I urge him to fully commit to one."
