Woman Convicted Of Benefit Fraud

A woman has been convicted for claiming benefits she was not entitled to at Downpatrick Crown Court.

Frances Hamilton of Moat Street, Donaghadee, claimed Income Support totalling £21,636 while failing to declare capital and that she was living with her partner. She was given a six month prison sentence suspended for two years.

She is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

Refurb Work Complete On Community Centre In L'Derry

The refurbishment work at Tullyally Community Centre in L'Derry is now complete.

The Department for Social Development provided almost £200,000 for the refurbishment work which recently fell into a state of disrepair.

Derry City and Strabane District Council progressed the refurbishment of the Centre and contributed a further £20,000 to its repair, bringing the total investment to £218,656.

The completed work has brought the existing Tullyally Community Centre building back to a condition where essential community services can be delivered. The pathway and green spaces surrounding the building have also been enhanced to ensure the best use of the space through additional paved areas and planting, generating a welcoming and community aspect for the site.

Construction Work Begins On £1.3m Scheme In Crumlin

Construction work has started on a £1.3 million development scheme for Gaelscoil Ghleann Darach in Crumlin.

The new four classroom-based system build accommodation, funded through the Department of Education's Accommodation Fund, will replace the school's existing mobile accommodation.

Education Minister John O’Dowd said: "This new purpose- built accommodation will give teachers and pupils at Gaelscoil Ghleann Darach four new teaching spaces, along with ancillary space and multi-purpose rooms. Development plans also include a hard play area as well as informal grass play areas for sport and leisure activities so children can develop their skills outside the classroom too."

Work is expected to be complete in October 2015.

Antrim Community Development Work Praised By Health Minister
Health Minister Robin Swann has praised the community development work being carried out in Antrim by the Oasis Caring in Action Centre. The group has established a partnership project with the local Boots community pharmacy.
