Pilkington Automotive Workers Suspend Strike Action

Talks are to be held on Wednesday in a dispute involving workers at windscreen makers Pilkington in Birmingham, who are being paid £3,000 less a year than employees at a site five miles away.

More than 130 workers at Pilkington Automotive Ltd in King's Norton have suspended strike action over pay inequality which sees workers at the Pilkington site in Redditch receive £3,000-a-year more in their pay packets. However, the continuous overtime ban will continue.

The suspension is to enable talks to take place between Unite and Pilkington management in Birmingham on Wednesday.

Further talks on Monday 13 July are scheduled, if necessary.

The strike action is over a 2% pay offer which would have further cemented the pay disparity between the two sites.
