First Minister To Meet With PM For Crunch Talks

First Minister Peter Robinson is to meet the the Prime Minister today to discuss the political crisis at Stormont.

DUP deputy leader Nigel Dodds is also expected to join the talks with David Cameron.

The crisis talks come after the UUP withdrew from the Executive over revelations that the Provisional IRA still exists.

It comes after the murder of Kevin McGuigan in the Short Strand area in August.

Writing in the Belfast Telegraph Mr Robinson said the decision of the UUP to leave the Executive is "not one of principle but of political expediency".

He concluded: "This is not the time to flee the battlefield, it is the time to confront violent republicanism, to stand and fight for democratic principles and to do what is right for the law abiding citizens of Northern Ireland who want to see our country prosper and reach its full potential."
