Police Appeal Over Attempted Armed Robbery In Ballymena

Police are appealing for information following an attempted armed robbery at a shop in Ballymena, Co Antrim.

The incident occurred at a shop in the Larne Road area just after 7.40pm on Wednesday.

A masked man armed with a knife demanded a staff member to open the till. However, the employee threw water over him and he made off empty handed.

The man was dressed in a navy hooded top, navy tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.

Chief Inspector Ball said: "I would ask anyone with any information about this incident to contact detectives in Ballymena Police Station on the non emergency number 101. Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111."

At approximately 7.45pm, a man armed with a suspected firearm entered a commercial premises. Man Shot Dead In Ballymoney
A man in his 40s has been shot dead in Ballymoney, Co Antrim. The incident happened outside a house at Riverview Park at around 10.30pm on Monday (5 January). He has since been named as Brian McIlhagga. He was 42. He had been beaten by an armed gang and shot once in the leg. The father-of-five, originally from Ballymena, died from his injuries.

Police Investigate Armed Robbery In Co Antrim
Police are investigating the armed robbery of a convenience store in Crumlin, Co Antrim. It is understood a man, believed to have been armed, entered the shop on Main Street at about 23:00 on Tuesday. The man demanded money and cigarettes from staff.
