Belfast conference to mark European Year of People with Disabilities
A major ‘barrier breaking’ conference to mark the European Year of People with Disabilities will be held in Belfast this November.
Entitled 'Breaking the Barriers', the two-day event, which takes place at Belfast City Hall on November 26 and 27, will see international expert speakers such as David Ruebain, Christy Lynch, Anne Frye give presentations on subjects covering attitudes and perceptions, health welfare and citizenship, education and transport.
Commenting on the event, Monica Wilson, Chief Executive of Disability Action, said: "I am delighted to see such a groundbreaking conference with high profile speakers giving an international perspective on disability issues in the European Year of People with Disabilities.
“This conference will provide the opportunity to benchmark policy and innovative services for people with disabilities in Northern Ireland. I would encourage all of those organisations with any involvement in disability issues to come along and participate."
The conference, supported by the Progressive Building Society, will explore international best practice and examine how this might be applied to Northern Ireland.
