Road Improvement Project In Belfast To Begin
A £200,000 road improvement scheme on Antrim Road in north Belfast is to begin.
The works between Hazelwood Park and O'Neill Road will begin on Monday 26 October and is expected to be completed by Thursday 05 November.
The resurfacing will be carried out in 2 phases. On Monday 26 October to Friday 30 October, there will be overnight closures for drainage; planning and regulating of carriageway. The second phase will take place on Wednesday 4 November to Friday 6 November for more overnight closures for final surfacing.
Diversions will be put in place.
NI Water Scoops RoSPA Award
NI Water has been awarded the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Gold Medal for occupational health and safety performance and continual improvement in the workplace.
NI Water's Head of Safety, Dymphna Gallagher, was delighted to have scooped the award.
He said: "This is a tremendous recognition of all the hard work carried out over the last year by all our colleagues and teams across NI Water in seeking to improve health and safety within our business. We all continue to work towards our 'Zero Harm' ambition, to lead the way within the water industry in the pursuit of raising standards and safety performance through the identification and adoption of industry best practice and continual business improvement, and to strive towards 'zero harm' for all of our staff, colleagues, contractors and customers."
Important To Plan Needs For Ageing Population - SF
Sinn Féin MLA Maeve McLaughlin has said it is important to plan for the health and social care needs of our ageing population.
Speaking at an Age NI conference in Belfast, the chair of the Assembly's health committee said: "It is clear we have an ageing population as a result of people being healthier and living longer.
"In 2013 we had 279,000 people over 65 in the North and within 20 years that is likely to rise to 456,000.
"The health service needs to be planning strategically to cater for the needs of a growing ageing population.
"We should look at examples of other countries which have moved towards a human rights-based approach to delivering health and social care to older people."

The Public Health Agency (PHA) is encouraging community and voluntary organisations across Northern Ireland to apply for its Elevate Mentoring and Grants programme, designed to help tackle health inequalities at a local level. The programme, coordinated by the Community Development and Health Network (CDHN), is now open for applications.
