Lord Mayor hits out at school attacks
The Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Martin Morgan has called for an end to sectarian attacks on schools throughout the city.
Cllr Morgan made his remarks following a spate of attacks on local schools across across the province.
"Sectarianism is a blight upon the City of Belfast and its people, and affects young and old across the entire City," the Lord Mayor said.
"Sectarianism and those who perpetrate it, and advocate on its behalf, must be condemned and challenged at political, civic, religious and community levels.
"It must be addressed in family homes – homes where this City’s young must be advised that a non-sectarian ethos is the only acceptable way forward," he added.
Cllr Morgan said a strong partnership between Government, police, politicians, church representatives, community representatives and voluntary and statutory sectors was necessary if sectarianism was to be combated.
“There are no excuses for anyone to behave or speak in sectarian terms," he concluded.
