NI Pupils Pitch Ideas For Start-Up Businesses

A number of schoolchildren were in Belfast City Hall today, 17 November, to pitch their ideas for start-up businesses and how they would market their enterprises.

The event was organised by Young Enterprise Northern Ireland (YENI) and Belfast City Council.

The Entrepreneurship Masterclass saw pupils from Victoria College, St Louise's, Hunterhouse; St Mary’s Christian Brothers Grammar School and students from Springvale Learning Centre form mixed teams to work together on a business idea and then present this concept to a panel of judges.

Teams were then awarded for the 'Most Creative Idea'; the idea with the 'Best Community Impact' and for marketing through the 'Online Marketing and Social Media Award'.

As part of the masterclass, the teams linked their new business ideas to Forthriver Innovation Centre which will be home to new and emerging businesses when opened next year. They presented their ideas to a panel made up of representatives from Belfast City Council, YENI and Heron Brothers, main contractor for the project.

The event at City Hall today was also linked to other council events taking place across the city this week as part of Global Enterpreneurship Week.
