600 Jobs Secured At Caparo

Unite the union has welcomed the further sale of businesses from the Caparo Industries Group to the Gupta family which secures over 600 jobs, based mainly in the West Midlands.

The latest sales to the Gupta family mean that more than 1,000 jobs have been retained since the steel group called in administrators PwC.

Unite national officer Harish Patel said: "This is further welcome news. The Caparo workforce is world class and it's good to see that the new owners recognise that retaining and investing skills is crucial to the business' success.

"Over the coming days and weeks we will be seeking assurances on investment and training which is crucial to sustaining skilled well paid jobs in our manufacturing sector. We will also be working closely with the new owners to ensure jobs are secured in the UK for the long term.

"While the recent sales are good news for the majority of workers at Caparo, we shouldn't forget those whose futures are still uncertain. Unite will continue to support our members and work closely with the administrators to secure as many jobs as possible."
