Cllr Hits Out At Criminal Gang Involved In Coleraine Kidnapping And Robbery

A Ulster Unionist Councillor has slammed a criminal gang involved in a kidnapping and robbery in Coleraine.

A Nationwide Building Society employee was forced to travel to his workplace in the early hours of Monday morning, while at least one of his family members was held hostage.

Ulster Unionist Councillor William McCandless condemned the incident.

He said: "This must have been a horrendous ordeal for the employee and his family and it is a disgrace that there are those criminal elements in our society who would rather terrorise decent hard-working people in order to steal what is not theirs, than work for a living.

"This gang must be caught and I would appeal to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the Ballybogey area on Sunday night or in the early hours of Monday morning, or who has any information that can help the Police in this investigation, to come forward immediately."
