Residents questioned over Council services
More than 10,000 residents in Northern Ireland are to be consulted about their views on the services provided by their local councils.
During October and November 2003, a random selection of residents across Northern Ireland will be asked for their opinions on a range of council services, from street cleaning to leisure centres, as part of local government’s commitment to achieve Best Value. This initiative requires councils continuously to improve their services and to consult local people in deciding how to do so.
Chairman of the local government Working Group overseeing the survey, Mr David Fallows, Town Clerk and Chief Executive of Ards Borough Council, said: “We are committed to communicating with our residents, but we need to put a range of measures in place to ensure that our residents can also communicate with us. This survey is one such method.
“Assessing levels of residents’ satisfaction will help us to identify areas of our work within which we are performing well and areas which require improvement. The results of this survey will contribute greatly to how councils should plan, deliver and improve their services.”
The survey will take the form of a 10-minute telephone interview and will be carried out by Belfast-based Research and Evaluation Services (RES).
