Belfast Wins Best Small European City For 'Business Friendliness'
Belfast has been named the best small European City for 'Business Friendliness', by the fDi Magazine – part of the Financial Times group.
It was also ranked among the top ten European cities for its economic potential and its strategy for attracting foreign direct investment.
The city was named the leading city for job creation from inward investment in the UK (excluding London) and had the highest figures by this measure among all small European cities. On a per capita basis, Northern Ireland also came out on top in attracting the highest number of FDI jobs in the UK.
The results were published as part of the fDI's European Cities and Regions for the Future 2016/17. The rankings provide a benchmark to assess the continent's investment landscape.
Lord Mayor of Belfast Arder Carson, said: "It's an honour for Belfast to come top in its category of business friendly cities across Europe and for the second year too, it’s quite an achievement.
"The FDI award endorses what our investors already know – Belfast is a great place to invest and do business.
"We have a highly skilled workforce, extremely competitive prime office rates and Belfast’s tourism industry is thriving, with a very healthy creative and tech sector too. The planned introduction of a new corporation tax rate will no doubt prove attractive to investors also."
