Minister hears concerns of NI social workers

Health Minister, Angela Smith, has met with representatives of the British Association of Social Work (BASW Northern Ireland) to discuss a wide range of issues in relation to social work and community care.

Welcoming the meeting, the Minister indicated that Paul Martin, Chief Inspector, Social Services Inspectorate, is leading a group to progress the review of the career pathway for social work.

Simultaneously, work is underway in negotiating social workers’ terms and conditions.

The Minister also heard about BASW’s initiative in promoting good relations in the profession and the workplace, with a particular focus on tackling sectarianism and plans for the European Social Work Action Day on 11 November.

In recognition of the European Year of People with Disabilities, BASW has chosen 'Disability, Human Rights and Social Work' as their theme for the Action Day.
