Three ex-NI stars enter management race
Three ex-Northern Ireland players have thrown their hat into the ring for the position of national team manager.
Gerry Armstrong, Lawrie Sanchez and Alan McDonald have all expressed an interest in the post which was vacated by departing boss Sammy McIlroy yesterday.
In two separate interviews with the BBC, Gerry Armstrong said he would "definitely consider" himself a candidate for the role while former Wimbledon star Lawrie Sanchez said he "would definitely be interested".
Former national team captain, Alan McDonald also expressed his desire to take over the reins and said he was flattered to be linked to the job.
However, while Armstrong would definitely be among the most popular of the three so far linked to the manager's post, many Northern Ireland supporters are looking at Oldham boss Iain Dowie to fill the role.
Dowie has expressed his desire to manage his country in the past, and with Martin O'Neill most certainly ruled out this could be the route the IFA take when they eventually approach shortlisted candidates.
