Union To Express Concern Over Proposed Closure Of Stagecoach Bus Depot
Unite the union will express concern at a meeting this week about the proposed closure of the Stagecoach bus depot in Dundee.
Bosses at the bus company have advised union officials that they plan to close the depot and move services elsewhere by the end of July. The move follows the recent withdrawal of the popular number 26 service in the city. The start of an official consultation process will begin with a meeting between the company and the union on Thursday, 05 May. There are nearly 80 drivers, and in total a staff of 120 at the Dundee site.
Unite regional officer Dougie Maguire said: "Stagecoach officials have advised us that the Dundee Stagecoach depot will be closing in stages in the coming months. We seriously ask them to think again. We have had serious concerns about the company's strategy, highlighted by the loss of the number 26 service. Stagecoach may want to pause and consider what message it would be sending out if it does not have the confidence to have a base in a major Scottish city. Buses are a crucial part of the transport network. Many people rely on our drivers and support staff in Dundee, a city of close to 150,000 people. Our members want to deliver the best possible service and that would be made all the harder with the loss of this depot. "From what we have been told the company do not expect to make any redundancies, rather the intention is to move the work to other areas around the east of Scotland."

Offshore Company Axes Jobs
Around 150 jobs in Aberdeen and Dundee have been axed after an offshore services company ceased trading. Oceanteam Power and Umbilical has been forced to close when the firm's holding company withdrew its financial support. Staff are based in Aberdeen, at workshops in Dundee and offshore.

Job Losses for Cookstown But Opportunities for Coalisland
A total of 12 new jobs are in the pipeline at a Coalisland recycling facility which has just embarked on mattress recycling. Envirogreen at Western Business Park, handles a wide range of recyclable materials, buying baled cardboard, plastic, metal and mattresses. The 12 new jobs will be created in the coming year.

Dublin Bus Services Restored
Most Dublin Bus services in the capital have been restored following strike action. Those operating out of the Harristown depot are still being curtailed by workers, but Dublin Bus has announced that the Clontarf, Conyngham Road, Phibsboro and Summerhill depots are no longer affected.

Sixty new jobs are to be created at a major new Iarnrod Eireann Traincare maintenance facility in Co Laois. The National Traincare Maintenance facility, located on a 39 acre site to the west of Portlaoise town centre, will play a central role in the major improvements planned for Iarnród Éireann’s Intercity services.
