Unemployment 'Continues To Fall' - Nash
New figures that show an 8.4% fall in unemployment figures have been welcomed by the Minister for Business and Employment Ged Nash.
The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office show that the unemployment rate for April 2016 was 8.4%. This is down significantly from the same period last year, when the jobless rate stood at 9.7%.
The number of unemployed people has also fallen by 3,700 in one month.
Minister Nash said: "It is very heartening to see that 25,700 people are now back at work compared to April last year and I am sure that these people and their families are looking to the future with far more optimism.
"I am particularly pleased to see that male unemployment has fallen below 10% for the first time since the Action Plan for Jobs was introduced by my Department. There is also further good news for young people, with the unemployment rate for 18 to 24 year olds continuing to tumble. But, we still have more work to do to reach our goal of full employment and cannot afford to become complacent.
"The next Government will face challenges in continuing to create the conditions for business to create jobs. But, equally I believe it must ensure that the jobs that are being created are decent, sustainable jobs which pay people enough to live on and ensure that they can enjoy the dignity of work. The foundations are in place to ensure this."

New figures have revealed official unemployment numbers have dropped 0.2% between February and March. The Central Statistics Office (CSO) publication states the official unemployment rate has fallen from 6.6% to 6.4%, and from 8.3% compared with March last year.

UK employment total rises by 300,000
Labour market statistics released today show the number of people in work is up by 300,000 over the last year. This month's Labour Force survey shows employment growing and unemployment on a downward trend. The number of people in work increased by 28,000 this quarter and is more than 300,000 higher than a year ago – so topping 28.2 million people.

Unemployment Rate Decreases
Figures released today for the period May - July 2013 show that the Northern Ireland unemployment rate decreased by 0.9 percentage points over the quarter to 6.9%. More recent figures for August 2013 show that the number of unemployment benefit claimants decreased by 300 over the month.

Unemployment In Ireland Drops - CSO
Tánaiste and Minister for Social Protection, Joan Burton TD, has said the continuing fall in unemployment in Ireland shows the success of the Government's continued efforts to create jobs and help people back into work. The number of people unemployed in July was 208,900, a decrease of 32,400 compared to July 2014.
