Drop In Number Of People Claiming Unemployment Benefits

The number of people claiming unemployment benefits in Northern Ireland has dropped by 600 to 37,900 in April.

Sinn Féin MLA Daithí McKay has welcomed the fall in unemployment, however he said the levels are still too high.

Mr McKay said: "Unemployment and economic inactivity in the North is still higher than in Britain which clearly shows that the partition and the union are continuing to hamper our economy..

"It is vital that all parties work together to attract investment, support start-ups and create more jobs and opportunities in our society and actively promote the all-island economy."

The figures were released by the Department for the Economy.
