Union To 'Lift The Lid' On Work Practices At Sports Direct

Unite assistant general secretary, Steve Turner and Unite regional officer, Luke Primarolo will be "lifting the lid" on work practices at Sports Direct when they give evidence to the influential House of Commons Business, Innovation and Skills select committee on Tuesday, 07 June.

Unite is expected to expose conditions likened to a 'gulag' at the retailer's Shirebrook warehouse when it gives evidence.

The session can be viewed online and will be followed by Sports Direct tycoon Mike Ashley and bosses from the employment agencies, Transline and The Best Connection.

In December, Mr Ashley announced he would personally oversee a review of working practices at the Shirebrook warehouse following a barrage of criticism after a Guardian undercover investigation and BBC Inside Out investigation.

MPs on the BiS select committee are expected to grill Mr Ashley on the progress of his review and his response to allegations of ‘Dickensian’ work practices.
