NI footballing history set for paintover

A south Belfast footbridge is set for a makeover thanks to a successful poll amongst local football fans.

The Irish Football Association (IFA) issued a poll in a local daily newspaper calling on Northern Ireland football fans to pick their favourite players, managers and moments from the national side's proud footballing tradition.

The resulting vote will see pictures of Northern Ireland’s top three managers, Billy Bingham, Peter Doherty and Danny Blanchflower, as well as Gerry Armstrong's goal against Spain in the 1982 World Cup, being painted over graffiti which spoils the footbridge at the bottom of Lower Windsor Avenue adjacent to Windsor Park.

The IFA, in partnership with community groups and BIAZE FX artists, Glenn Black and Ken Maze, will be joined by former Lord Mayor of Belfast, Bob Stoker, current Northern Ireland international, Andy Smith, and comedian, John McBlain, alongside Northern Ireland Football Supporters and local School Children, to kick start the painting at 11am on Thursday.
