New £45m Ticketing System For Public Transport Introduced

A new £45 million ticketing system which aims to increase the number of people using public transport in Northern Ireland has been announced.

Infrastructure Minister Chris Hazzard said the system will deliver long term benefits.

Minister Hazzard said: "The current ticketing system was introduced 15 years ago and serves around 80million passenger journeys every year. This programme will deliver a modern, efficient and convenient ticketing system that will benefit passengers and lead to greater efficiencies. It will improve the passenger experience."

The Minister also confirmed that Parkeon has been awarded the contract to design and deliver the new ticketing system.

Owen Griffith, Managing Director at Parkeon Transportation said: "I am delighted that Parkeon has been selected to deliver this prestigious new system and am looking forward to working closely with Translink to make sure that the project is a great success. As specialists in transport ticketing solutions, Parkeon has a deep understanding of how the technologies that Translink have selected for this project can bring significant benefits in terms of convenience and ease-of-use for passengers."

Transport Unions Re-Enter Talks With Translink
Northern Ireland's transport unions have agreed to re-enter discussions with Translink management, after the rejection of a pay offer. GMB, SIPTU and Unite announced last week that a "decisive majority" of their members had voted to reject a 5% pay offer and one-off payment of £1,500.
