Sickness Within NI Civil Service Continues To Increase

Sickness levels within the Northern Ireland Civil Service have increased in the last year.

Civil servants took an average of 11.7 days each off during the 12 months up to April compared to 10.8 days the previous year, according to a report by the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA).

The figure is above the annual target of 8.5 days.

The days cost almost £33 million in lost production.

The main reasons for absence were anxiety, stress and depression.
