Death Of Overdose Inmate Could Have Been Prevented - Report
An inmate took a fatal overdose of his own prescription drugs despite asking not to be in control of taking them, a report by the Prison Ombudsman has found.
Patrick Kelly, 46, died in hospital from an overdose after hoarding the drugs while on remand at Maghaberry Prison.
The report found his overdose was "foreseeable" and his death was "preventable".
Prisoner Ombudsman Tom McGonigle said: "This poignant case has provided considerable learning about medication management in prison. It is particularly difficult for his family to accept that Mr Kelly died from an overdose of his own medication after having asked not be allowed to hold it because he recognised the risks."

PSNI Appeal For Information On Fatal Collision Outside Tandragee
The PSNI have named a man who died following a road traffic collision outside Tandragee, as 84-year-old Sidney McIldoon. Mr McIldoon, who was from Portadown, died following a collision between his vehicle and a tractor on Tuesday afternoon, 13th February on the Cornascriebe Road, between Tandragee and Hamiltonsbawn.

'Significant Quantity' Of Tablets Discovered On Co Down Beach
The PSNI have issued a warning following the discovery of a "significant quantity" of tablets of County Down's Cloughey beach on the afternoon of Wednesday, 03 April. Officers responded to reports that large quantity of tablets in plastic blister packs had been found on the beach.

Homes Evacuated In Co Tyrone And Co Down
Homes have been evacuated in two separate security alerts in County Tyrone and County Down today, 19 January. In the first security alert, a suspicious object was found at at a house on the Gortgonis Road in Coalisland. A number of nearby houses have been evacuated and the public asked to avoid the area at this time.
