Ireland's Rugby World Cup 2023 Bid Reaches Final Stage

Ireland's Rugby World Cup 2023 bid has reached the final phase.

France, Ireland and South Africa have been announced as the final three candidates to host the Rugby World Cup.

First Minister Arlene Foster and deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness welcomed the news.

Arlene Foster said: "The potential to host the Rugby World Cup 2023 presents a fantastic opportunity to showcase our excellent rugby talent, magnificent facilities and legendary hospitality to rugby fans across the world. Northern Ireland has what it takes to host world class events and the Executive will continue to work hard to bring this great sporting event here in 2023."

Mr McGuinness, said: "South Africa and France are formidable opponents, however, I believe the partnership between sport organisations, Government and local businesses can provide a winning combination in ensuring a successful event. I am certain everyone here will get behind the Ireland bid and look forward next year when the final decision on who will host RWC 2023 is made in November 2017."

The Irish Rugby Football Union has formally announced its intention to submit a bid to host the 2023 Rugby World Cup in Ireland. The IRFU made the announcment in conjunction with the Irish government and the Northern Ireland Executive.

Paddy Jackson's And Stuart Olding's Contracts Revoked
The contracts of Paddy Jackson and Stuart Olding have been revoked with "immediate effect" by the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) and Ulster Rugby. Last month, the two rugby players were unanimously acquitted of raping a woman at a house in south Belfast in June 2016.

Wallace out of Ireland rugby squad for Japan
Ulster back Paddy Wallace has been forced to withdraw from the Ireland rugby squad which is due to tour Japan next month, due to a broken bone in his right hand. The IRFU's official website revealed that the 25-year-old's place in the travelling party would now go to former Munster utility back Jeremy Staunton.

South Africa Recommended To Host 2023 Rugby World Cup
South Africa has been recommended to host the 2023 Rugby World Cup ahead of Ireland and France. Minister Sahne Ross Expressed his disappointment, however he said that World Rugby "made it clear that they were very impressed by the quality and detail of the Irish bid".
