Body Of Man Shot Dead By Army To Be Exhumed

The body of a man shot dead by an army unit over 40 years ago is to be exhumed as part of a legacy investigation.

Daniel Rooney, 18, was killed by soldiers from the Military Reaction Force (MRF) in west Belfast on 26 September in 1972.

It is part of an investigation by police into allegations the MRF carried out random and unjustified shootings during the Troubles.

There was no post-mortem carried out after his death.

The PSNI's Legacy Investigation Branch is in carrying out the wide-ranging probe following a referral by Northern Ireland Director of Public Prosecutions Barra McGrory.

The exhumation is to take place at the Milltown Cemetery on Monday, 21 November.
