Ruane Not Standing In Next Assembly Election

Sinn Féin MLA Caitríona Ruane has confirmed she will not be standing in the next Assembly election in Northern Ireland.

She said: "I have now decided not to put my name forward for selection for the next Assembly election.

"Sinn Féin has continued to grow in the South Down constituency, as it has across the island, and I have no doubt that local activists will choose a strong team to go before the electorate and they will have my full and enthusiastic support in any upcoming election, in which I will acting as an election agent.

"This will be a hugely important election and it is vital that people have the opportunity to call time on the DUP's arrogance and put respect and equality at the heart of the political institutions.

"I want to thank all of the people of South Down and the party in the area for the support and trust they have shown me over the years and I look forward to the continued growth of Sinn Féin in the area."

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams said: "I want to thank Caitríona for her many years of commitment and hard work on behalf of the people of South Down and of the North.

"For 14 years Caitríona was an exemplary MLA. She also carried out her responsibilities as Assembly deputy Speaker and Education Minister with diligence and commitment.

"Sinn Féin will miss her experience and leadership in the next Assembly."

Man And Woman Jailed For 'Brutal And Senseless Attack'
The PSNI have welcomed the sentencing of two people at Laganside Crown Court for a range of offences including grievous bodily harm with intent, threats to kill, common assault and possession of an offensive weapon. 26-year-old Dylan Black, from the Lisburn area, was sentenced to seven years in prison. Four Men Sentenced Over Co Antrim ATM Thefts
Four men have been sentenced in connection with a series of ATM thefts in the County Antrim area over four years ago. The investigation related to a number of ATM thefts between 27th October 2018 and 6th December 2019, including the theft of two cash machines at a supermarket on Castle Way in Antrim.

Daniel Sebastian Allen Jailed For 29 Years For Murder Of Family Of Four
Daniel Sebastian Allen has been sentenced to life in prison for the deaths of three people in a deliberate house fire in Derrylin, Co Fermanagh, in 2018. The 33-year-old pleaded guilty to starting a fire at a house, which lead to the death of four people, including a baby girl.

Man Jailed For 20 Years For 2022 Murder Of Alyson Nelson
A 68-year-old man has been sentenced to a minimum of 20 years in prison for the murder of Alyson Nelson in Whitehead in 2022. William (Bill) Finlay was handed a life sentence last November, after pleading guilty to murder aggravated by domestic abuse.
