Supreme Court: PSNI Had Power To Stop Flag Protests
The Supreme court has ruled that the PSNI was wrong to allow union flag protests.
Five Supreme Court justices in London ruled unanimously in favour of an unnamed Belfast resident, and said that police did have the legal power to stop the parades.
In 2014, a High Court judge ruled that the PSNI should not have facilitated illegal parades.
The PSNI said it had received the judgement and would "study it carefully".
Sinn Féin Councillor Mairéad O'Donnell welcomed the ruling.
She said: "I commend the local resident who has pursued this case through the courts on behalf of all the people of Short Strand.
"For months the people of the Short Strand had to endure parades passing through our area related to the loyalist flags protest.
"Essentially the community was under siege from these illegal parades.
"The community challenged the PSNI to do something about it but they refused.
"Today's judgement from the Supreme Court found that the PSNI had to power to stop these parades all along but they failed to do so.
"The PSNI got it wrong and the community in the Short Strand suffered.
"People need to have confidence in the PSNI that they are acting on behalf of the entire community.
"Today's judge needs to herald a step change in PSNI actions.
"Sinn Féin representatives will be raising this with the PSNI at the Policing Board."

Three People Charged In Connection With Burglary
Three people are to appear in court charged in connection with burglary offences. Two men, aged 33 & 34, and a woman aged 18, are being charged in relation to two burglaries in north Belfast and one in Limavady on Monday, 30 July. The PSNI said the suspects will appear at Belfast Magistrates Court later this morning, 01 August.

Man Charged With Human Trafficking And Controlling Prostitution
Police have charged a 33-year-old man with human trafficking and controlling prostitution offences. The suspect was arrested in Belfast by detectives from the PSNI Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Unit as part of an operation on Wednesday, 20 June. He is due to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court today, 22 June.

83-Year-Old Man Pleads Guilty To Historical Sexual Assaults
An 83-year-old man has pled guilty to historical sexual assaults in Belfast. The PSNI said the offences took place against a teenage boy in the 1980's in the greater Belfast area. The suspect pled guilty at Belfast Crown Court today, 11 May. The PSNI said: "Sentencing will take place at a later date.

PSNI Attend 'Ongoing Incident' After Report Of Fire In West Belfast
The PSNI are attending an "ongoing incident" after a fire was reported at a property in west Belfast. The blaze was reported in the Grosvenor Court area just before 9am on Tuesday, 24 January. No-one is believed to have been injured.

Man And Woman Jailed For 'Brutal And Senseless Attack'
The PSNI have welcomed the sentencing of two people at Laganside Crown Court for a range of offences including grievous bodily harm with intent, threats to kill, common assault and possession of an offensive weapon. 26-year-old Dylan Black, from the Lisburn area, was sentenced to seven years in prison. He will serve three years on license.
