Man Arrested Following Police Chase From Belfast To Newry

A man has been arrested following a police chase from Belfast to Newry.

Two police officers were injured after a car reversed into their vehicle on the Falls Road in west Belfast at around 4pm on Wednesday, 01 February.

A silver coloured Renault Scenic towing a trailer failed to stop after it reversed into a police vehicle. This prompted a police chase out of Belfast towards Notts Corner heading via Moira and Banbridge.

Pursuit trained drivers and a helicopter followed the vehicle before being stopped in Newry.

A man was arrested on suspicion of burglary, driving whilst disqualified, dangerous driving, no insurance, criminal damage and failing to stop, report and remain at a road traffic collision.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "At this stage we believe that the Scenic may have been in contact with other vehicles whilst evading police and I would ask anyone affected or anyone with any information which could assist us with our enquiries to contact officers in Newry on 101 quoting reference 802 01/02/17."
