Viable Bomb Found In South Belfast

A viable bomb has been discovered in south Belfast.

The PSNI received reports that a suspicious object was found in the Markets area shortly after 11pm on Thursday, 09 February.

Army bomb disposal experts attended the scene and made the device safe.

Stanfield Place was closed overnight and the viable bomb has been taken away for further examination.

Sinn Féin councillor Deirdre Hargey said: "This device could have endangered the resident in question and other residents in the area.

"An area was sealed off by police and the bomb defused on site.

"There can be no justification for this attack and I would appeal to anyone with information to contact the police."
