Trimble slams constituency office attackers

Ulster Unionist leader David Trimble has described those responsible for paint bombing his constituency office in Lurgan as "arrogant bully boys".

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday night, followed an eventful day for Mr Trimble who was confronted by a mobile billboard and the DUP leadership team outside party offices earlier in the day.

The Upper Bann MP said: "This is not the first time my office in Lurgan has been singled out for attack.

"As is the democratic right of all political parties, the Ulster Unionist Party will continue to canvass the electorate and will not be deterred by attacks of this nature.

"I have canvassed in Portadown and the rest of the constituency during this election period and contrary to comments made by the deputy leader of DUP and his wife, I received a warm and positive response and am confident of the continued support of the electorate.

"The language used by the DUP members on Tuesday to my not being welcome in my constituency does a great disservice to the people of Upper Bann in general and Portadown in particular."

Mr Trimble has an eventful schedule ahead of him on Thursday as he visits Downpatrick, Donaghcloney, Ahoghill and Antrim by helicopter in an effort to win over voters ahead of Assembly elections next Wednesday.
