UUP Supports 'One Pill Will Kill' Campaign

The Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) has showed its support for an anti-drugs campaign launched by the family of Jamie Barns, who died after taking one ecstasy tablet on a night out in November last year.

The 'one pill will kill' campaign launched at the Houben Centre in north Belfast on Monday, 10 April.

UUP representative Robert Foster attended the launch.

He said: "Jamie Burns was 23 years old when he lost his life after taking one tablet on a night out in Belfast in November, and the devastation that his death has caused to his family is still clear for all to see.

"Jamie's father William spoke movingly about the tragic loss of his son and how the family want to do all they can to ensure no other family goes through the pain and suffering which they are having to endure. Tragically five people lost their lives to drugs in Belfast last week alone.

"I fully support the Burns family's campaign to combat those who deal in drugs and fully agree that they should be termed 'death-dealers' so that people appreciate the reality of what their activities involve.

"I fully endorse the family's campaign and urge anyone who has any information that can help stop drug dealers selling their poison to our young people to contact the police immediately."
