Youths Attack Fire Crews With 'Missiles' In Co Down

A number of youths attacked fire crews with missiles in Co Down.

The PSNI have condemned the incident after reports of anti-social behaviour in the Killough Road area in Downpatrick on Tuesday, 18 April.

Young people placed bins across the road and set them on fire, according to the PSNI.

A police spokesperson said: "Any damage caused that results in a vehicle being removed from service for repair will diminish the capability of the emergency services to respond to calls. This could potentially endanger the lives of those in the community who require their assistance.

"We are aware of the impact on the quality of life that anti-social behaviour can have for local residents and are committed to working together to provide a solution," police added.

"We are aware of ongoing concerns regarding criminal damage and vandalism in the area and will do our utmost to detect and deter this type of activity.

"Those who are involved in this behaviour also have to be educated about the consequences of antisocial behaviour, the effect it can have on other people and how this and other criminal behaviour can affect their opportunities later on in life.

"We would also ask parents to be aware of where their kids are gathering as many come from other neighbourhoods and are getting involved in anti-social behaviour, causing distress to local residents."
