Work to commence on 19th Century bridge
Work is set to commence on a well-known local landmark in Co Fermanagh which was originally constructed in the 19th Century.
Strengthening and painting of the Inishmore Viaduct, which carries the C436 Inishmore Road across Upper Lough Erne, north of Derrylin, will cost the DoE's Road's Service around £200,000.
The bridge was constructed in 1890 when transport was generally by horse and cart, so it is a tribute to the vision of the original designers that comparatively little work is required to make the bridge compliant with the current EU loading requirement of 40 tonnes.
As well as the strengthening work, Roads Service will be taking the opportunity to re-paint the bridge, renew the waterproofing to the deck and resurface the carriageway.
The bridge will be closed on 1 December for a period of three weeks before being reopened to traffic for two weeks over the Christmas period, closing again on 5 January until 28 March.
A diversion route will be signposted via A509 Enniskillen, A509 Derrylin and B127 Lisnaskea.

Green Party Welcomes Decision To Save Promote Learning Disability Service
The Green Party has welcomed the decision by charity & social, Orchardville, to run the Promote Learning Disability Service in Bangor after it was under threat of closure. Although delighted by the news, Councillor McKee said that it was "disgraceful" that day opportunity placements for 52 adults were put under threat.
