Road Closures Ahead Of Gran Fondo Giro d'Italia

A number of traffic restrictions will be in place this Sunday, 04 June, due to the Gran Fondo Giro d'Italia, it has been confirmed.

Final preparations for the events are currently underway and police have issued a reminder to the public regarding road closures.

Road closures will be in place across various areas of Northern Ireland on Sunday and some travel disruption is expected. Motorists are advised that if they are not planning to attend the event, they should avoid the routes on which the race will take place. For those planning to travel to the event, they are advised to get to their destination prior to the road closures and also follow the controlled gateway crossings.

Assistant Chief Constable Alan Todd said: "As a police service, our primary duty is to ensure public safety. We have invested significant time and effort in planning for Sunday's event with organisers and partner agencies to ensure that this year's Gran Fondo Giro d'Italia passes off successfully whilst causing as little disruption to normal everyday life as possible.

"For the safety of riders and spectators it is essential that all roads are clear from vehicles and that no one parks on any of the planned routes.

"I want to reassure the public that we will do our utmost to keep disruption to an absolute minimum, however I would advise anyone if they are not planning to attend the event to avoid the routes which the race will take place and if you are travelling on the road networks on Sunday to allow extra time for their journey."

Full details, as well as route maps and road closures are available via the Gran Fondo Giro d'Italia website here.
