Five Fire Hydrants Damaged In North Belfast

Five fire hydrants had to be shut down after they were vandalised in north Belfast.

A number of residents living in the New Lodge and North Queen Street were left with no water or low water pressure rolling the incident.

This is the second time fire hydrants have been vandalised in the past week.

NI Water appealed to the public to help tackle the problem.

A spokesperson from the firm said: "The public are often our eyes and ears, and we are grateful for any support given to us to combat vandalism at our sites. We would ask local community leaders and representatives to extend support to us in helping to bring such disruptive activity to an end; this isn’t just a bit of fun.  If vandalism is witnessed at any NI Water site, please contact the PSNI or contact NI Water via Waterline by dialling 03457 440088."
