Two Men Released Over Pipe Bomb Attack In L'Derry

Police have released two men have been unconditionally following an investigation into dissident republican activity in Co L'Derry.

The arrests were in relation to a pipe bomb attack in the Earhart Park area in January this year.

The pair, aged 22 and 29, were detained in the Claudy and Shantallow areas on Thursday, 17 August, and taken to Belfast to be questioned. They have since been released.

Prison Officer Released On Bail Over Drugs Offences
A prison officer has been released on bail after being arrested over drugs offences. The woman, reported to be 50-years-old, was arrested on suspicion of possessing and supplying Class A and B drugs at Maghaberry Prison. According to reports, it is understood she was detained on Monday, and released pending further enquiries.

Figures released today show a 10% increase in the number of Crown court cases from January to March 2013, compared with the same quarter the previous year. There were 477 Crown cases received during the first quarter, in comparison to 435 received during the same period in 2012.

Man arrested over Belfast cannabis find
Following a planned search operation in south Belfast yesterday, officers seized around 14 cannabis plants and a quantity of paraphernalia associated with drugs. One man was arrested following the raid at the property in the Stranmillis Wharf area of the city, however was later released pending a report.

NI unemployment figures lowest on record
Northern Ireland’s unemployment rate has fallen to the lowest level on record according to the latest figures released today. The latest labour market figures show the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 4.5% for the period October – December 2004 has fallen from 5.1% in the previous quarter and from 6.3% for the same period last year.

Man arrested in connection with murder
One man has been arrested following the murder of a man in Co Down last month. Andrew Cully, a father of teenage boys from Greyabbey, was shot up to 10 times as he sat in his parked car in the loyalist West Winds estate in Newtownards on 24 March.

Two Men Released Over Attack In Armagh
Two men have been released on bail following a serious attack on a 20-year-old man in County Armagh on Sunday. The assault occurred in the Millford area, off the Monaghan Road. A 20-year-old man sustained head and facial injuries and remains in a serious condition in hospital. The men, aged 24 and 25, were released pending further inquiries.

Men released in arson attack probe
Detectives in County Antrim have released three of the four men arrested in connection with a petrol bomb attack on a property in the area. One of the men was released without charge, two were released pending further inquiries, while a fourth man was charged with possession of a prohibited weapon.

Two Arrested Following Knife Attack In L'Derry
Two people have been arrested in connection with a knife attack in L'Derry. The incident occurred in the Waterside area at approximately 8.30pm on Monday. One man suffered cuts to his hand and the other male received cuts to his neck. Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Serious Fire In L'Derry
A serious fire has broke out at De Burgh Square in L'Derry. Emergency Services are currently trying to control the blaze. The incident at the property was reported just after 11am on Monday. The area has been cordoned off. No further details have been released.

Arrests Over 1973 Belfast Shooting
Detectives investigating the murder of a Catholic teenager in north Belfast 40 years ago have arrested two men in Great Britain. One of the suspects was detained in the Falkirk area of Scotland and the other in London.
