NI Unemployment Remains Above UK Average
The latest figures from the Labour Force Survey have revealed that the employment rate fell by 1.3% over the year to August 2017.
The Survey, from Northern Ireland Statistics & Research Agency, also revealed that the economic inactivity rate (27.8%) increased by 1.5% over the year.
However, the number of people claiming unemployment related benefits stood at 29,800 (3.3% of the workforce) in August 2017, representing a decrease of 200 from the previous month's revised figure.
The latest NI unemployment rate of 5.3% is above the UK average of 4.3% but remains below the European Union (7.7%) rate and Republic of Ireland (6.3%) rate for June 2017.
