PSNI Called To Clarify If Guns Were Found During Searches In Larne
Sinn Féin’s Oliver McMullan has called on the PSNI to clarify if the guns found in recent searches in Larne have been stolen from the Larne area.
Mr McMullan said: "Following reports of thefts of firearms being found I am seeking clarity from the PSNI if they were part of those legally held firearms which were stolen from the Larne area recently.
"Some, if not all of these weapons could have fallen into the hands of the organised crime gangs and loyalist paramilitaries preying on communities and used to carry out further crimes.
"It is necessary that all stolen firearms are recovered."
Woman Convicted Of Benefit Fraud
A woman has been convicted for claiming £77,202 benefits she was not entitled to at Newry Magistrates' Court.
Elizabeth Reilly claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £77,202 while failing to declare capital. She was given a 15 month prison sentence suspended for two years.
The fraud was uncovered following an investigation by the Department for Communities.
She is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Department.
SDLP Writes To Party Leaders Over Education Budget Cuts
SDLP Education Spokesperson Colin McGrath MLA has written to the all party leaders seeking political agreement on the way forward for school budgets.
Speaking after meeting with principals and the Permanent Secretary at the Department for Education, Mr McGrath said: "The message I'm hearing from school principals is that we are at breaking point. School budgets have already been cut to the bone – any further reductions will have a disastrous impact on the quality of education our young people receive.
"That was put in the strongest possible terms to the Permanent Secretary this morning.
"What's needed now is political consensus. That's why I'm writing to the all the main party leaders to seek a meeting to discuss the way forward for school resourcing.
"We need to get this right. The wellbeing of our children must be a priority for every elected representative."

Further Six Projects In Shared Education Programme
A further six projects involving over 20 schools have signed up to the second call in the Shared Education Campuses Programme. The Shared Education Campuses Programme was launched in January 2014 by Minister for Education John O'Dowd. Under the Programme the Department is aiming to invest in projects involving the need for new shared facilities.
