Pedestrian Killed In Cookstown Collision

A pedestrian has died after being struck by a car in Co Tyrone.

The incident happened at around 3.30am on Chapel Street in Cookstown on Sunday, 01 October.

The victim has been named as Stephen Wilkinson, aged 26, who was from the Ardboe area.

The 26-year-old driver has been arrested.

The road was closed, however it has now been reopened.

Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

Ulster Unionist Councillor Trevor Wilson said: "Like the rest of the Cookstown community, I was shocked to wake up this morning to the news that another young life had been lost on our roads.

"Stephen Wilkinson who was only 26, and from the Ardboe area, was struck by a car in Chapel Street in Cookstown.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the Wilkinson family at this desperately sad time and my deepest sympathies are with the family and his friends."
