Former Loyalist Leader Glenn Barr Dies, Aged 75

Former UDA commander Glenn Barr has died, aged 75.

Mr Barr became leader of the Ulster Workers Strike in the 1970s which brought down the Sunningdale power-sharing executive.

He also visited Libya for discussions with Colonel Gaddafi as part of a UDA delegation.

He left politics in 1981 and worked with the community in L'Derry where he established an employment scheme for disadvantaged youths.

He also helped with the Messines project which used the experiences of soldiers in the First World War to call for peaceful resolution to conflicts.
