Farrans Construction Starts Work On £400,000 Improvement Project

Farrans Construction has started work on a £400,000 improvement project in Co Antrim.

The water supply infrastructure is to be improved and upgraded in the Firmount Drive area.

Work on the NI Water scheme is now underway and will continue until the 22 December, when the area will be fully reinstated to reduce disruption over the Christmas period.

Further work will continue in the new year, commencing on the 08 January 2018. The work will be completed in sections to keep disruption to a minimum and diversion signage will be in place.

The areas affected include: Bleerick Drive, Dunore Crescent and Islandbawn Drive.

Diversions will be put in place during the works.

Schools Need Certainty For Next financial Year - SDLP

SDLP Children and Young People Spokesperson Colin McGrath MLA has welcomed additional resource for education, however he said that schools need certainty for the next financial year.

"The uplift in education resource is positive news in the short term but it still fails to resolve the crisis conditions facing schools in the absence of a government in Northern Ireland.

"Our schools can’t be expected to live month to month or year to year. They should be able to plan ahead and deliver the highest quality education to our children and young people.

"This resource may enable schools to buy pens and pencils for their pupils without asking for voluntary donations but that's nothing to be proud of."

New App Launches For Victims Of Domestic Abuse

Sinn Féin MLA Órlaithí Flynn has welcomed the launch of a new app to help victims of domestic abuse and sexual violence.

The West Belfast MLA was commenting after the app was launched by the Belfast area Domestic & Sexual Violence and Abuse Partnership.

She said: "It is free to download and provides vital information on domestic violence and sexual violence within an intimate partner relationship, information on how to recognise the warning signs of an abusive relationship and where to go for support."
