Yellow Warning For Snow And Ice Issued In NI

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice across Northern Ireland on Monday, 15 January, until Tuesday, 16 January.

The warning has been put in place from 6pm until 11.55pm.

Frequent and heavy snow showers are expected throughout NI.

There is a small chance that power cuts may occur and travel delays on roads are also possible.

The public is being urged to take extra care on roads and pavements.

RNLI Rescue Teenagers Caught In Rip Current
Three teenagers have been rescued by RNLI lifeguards from the sea off Portrush East Strand after being caught in a rip current. Lifeguards Josh McCaw and Nicola McIlroy were patrolling the beach on Tuesday afternoon when at 12.50pm, Josh spotted three swimmers in the sea 300m east of the lifeguarded patrol zone.

Prepared to deal with heavy snowfalls, the DRD Roads Service in Northern Ireland have been on special alert since Sunday, following an advanced warning of possible snow from the Meteorological Office.

Winter Wonderland To Return
As national weather forecasters said that the North and West of the UK would be worst hit by another spell of freezing temperatures - snow showers are expected to return to NI later today. With several centimetres of snow predicted to fall in some places, forecasters said the renewed Arctic blast could last into the middle of next week.

A 'yellow' weather warning has been issued by the Met Office in preparation of snow and ice across Northern Ireland this week. The warning is valid until Wednesday 14 January. Frequent showers of sleet or snow are expected to affect Scotland and Northern Ireland from Monday evening into Tuesday.

Delays And Closures Follow Snowfalls
There is continuing New Year disruption on the roads and in the air across NI today as further snowfalls led to treacherous conditions. Cancellations followed as Manchester Airport was closed overnight as well as flights being diverted or delayed to and from City of Derry Airport as snow, ice and freezing temperatures continued.

A new weather warning has been issued for Northern Ireland. On Tuesday, the Met Office issued a fresh warning for snow in the region. It said rain and sleet can be expected with snow on higher ground. The 'yellow' alert will be in place from 5pm today (20 January).

Snow Warning Issued To Motorists
The Roads Service has issued a warning to all Northern Ireland motorists to be aware of hazardous conditions following substantial snow showers over night. Up to four inches of snow has fallen in many parts, particularly on higher ground.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice from 3pm today, 14 January, until midday tomorrow. Sleet and snow showers are to become heavier in the afternoon and are expected to continue throughout the night. One to four centimetres of snow could accumulate at lower levels with 5 to 10cm on higher ground.

'Yellow' Warning For Snow And Ice
The UK Met Office has put a 'yellow' warning in place for snow and ice, lasting Thursday until Friday. Frequent showers are due to fall as sleet and snow, especially on higher ground and also occasionally down to lower levels too. Accumulations of 2-5 cm can be expected on ground above 150m, with 10 cm or more on ground above 300-400m.

Cancer Charity Urges 'Look Down In The Mouth'
People across NI are being encouraged to look 'down in the mouth' as the Ulster Cancer Foundation (UCF) uses Mouth Cancer Week to encourage people to be aware of the early signs of mouth cancer and to seek medical help if they have any concerns.

Terrorist Bomb Blights Royal Visit To Ireland
Despite security analysis that indicated there wouldn't be any terrorist bombing in the Irish State, a bomb has been planted on a Dublin-bound bus overnight. Irish Army bomb disposal officers later dealt with the 'viable device' after it were detected close to Dublin.

Heavy snow showers affect whole of NI
Heavy snow showers have affected many parts of Northern Ireland overnight and there is a Met Office severe weather warning in force. Snow depths ranged from one inch to six inches with many schools closing for the day because of the dangerous conditions.
