Two Men Arrested After Woman Dragged From Car In Banbridge
Two men have been arrested in connection with an alleged hijacking in Banbridge, Co Down.
A woman was dragged from her car in the Church Square area at around 5.30pm on Wednesday, 24 January.
The pair hijacked the vehicle and it collided with several other cars, including one which was being driven by a pregnant lady, before crashing into Newry roundabout.
Both men were arrested on suspicion of hijacking, aggravated taking and driving away (TADA) driving when unfit through drink or drugs.
One of the men is accused of assaulting police.
DUP MLA Carla Lockhart said: "I would commend the PSNI for their response but the members of the public who intervened deserve our thanks for the detention and subsequent arrest of two suspects. After subjecting the lady to the ordeal of losing her vehicle these two people then hit several others cars as they made their escape. Thankfully vigilant locals stepped in too prevent this. I am encouraged that the police were in the area on patrol at the time of the incident. This will reassure locals that Banbridge is receiving the attention promised. We need to see this maintained and more resources assigned to operational policing with incident like this and burglaries on the rise."
