Man Killed In West Belfast Shooting

A man has died after being shot in west Belfast.

The attack happened in the Glenbawn Avenue area of Poleglass at around 8pm on Tuesday, 13 February.

It is believed he was shot in the chest.

Sinn Féin Councillor Stephen Magennis condemned the shooting and described it as "brutal".

He said: "I have spoken to some of the victim's family and friends and they are obviously devastated and in a state of shock.

"There can be absolutely no justification for this murder which was carried out in the most brutal fashion.

"The people carrying out these attacks are bringing nothing but death and destruction. They need to be condemned and should get off the backs of this community.

"I would appeal to anyone who has any information about this attack to bring it to the PSNI."

SDLP Councillor Brian Heading said the entire community is in shock.

He said: "Those responsible for this monstrous criminal act must be caught and they must be brought to justice. There is no room in this city or in this society for those intent on murder and mayhem and who will commit the most heinous crimes.

"I'm calling on anyone with information to please come forward to police. These thugs cannot be allowed to bully this strong community into silence. They cannot dominate us, we cannot let them."

MP's Hit Out After Disgraceful Display At Anti-Internment Bonfire
MP's have hit out after a number of people mocked victims and survivors during an anti-internment bonfire in Newry. A poster making reference to Willie Frazer's father, who was murdered by the IRA, was placed on top of the bonfire before it was set alight. Police are treating the incident as a suspected hate crime.

Man Killed In East Belfast Shooting
A murder investigation has been launched following the fatal shooting of a man in east Belfast. The victim, who has been named as Kevin McGuigan Sr, 50, was shot in the Comber Court area of the Short Strand just before 9pm on Wednesday evening. He was taken to hospital by ambulance and was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police in north Belfast are investigating a shooting that left a man critically ill. The attack happened at Ballymoney Street off the Oldpark Road at about 11pm on Thursday and saw three men go into a house and shoot the man in the shoulder.

Man Hit By Glass Bottle In West Belfast
Police have launched an investigation after a man was hit on the head with a glass bottle by youths in west Belfast. The incident happened as the car was travelling on the Suffolk Road at around 8pm on Tuesday, 07 August. The bottle also broke the victim's car window and he had to drive himself to hospital to be treated.

Condemnations Follows Glengormley Shooting
The Mayor of Newtownabbey, Alliance Councillor Billy Webb, has condemned those involved in a shooting in the Mayfield area in which a man was shot in the stomach. The 31-year-old victim has been left in a serious condition in hospital after being shot by two men who entered a house at Mayfield Court, Glengormley, at around 10pm on Wednesday.

Two Arrested Over Strabane Shooting
Two men have been arrested in connection with a shooting incident in Strabane, Co Tyrone. The shooting occurred in the Ballycolman Estate at around 7pm on Thursday evening. A man, said to be aged 28, was injured in the attack. He was taken to hospital with two gunshot wounds to his left foot, and one to his right leg.

Derry Shooting Condemned
A leading Sinn Féin politician, the Foyle MLA Raymond McCartney, has slammed the shooting of 35-year-old man in his constituency last night. Two masked men armed with shotguns entered a bookmakers' premises at Meenan Square, Londonderry at about 9pm and told everyone to lie on the floor. They then shot a 35-year-old man shot in both legs.

Two People Arrested After £1m Cannabis Seizure
Two people have been arrested after police seized cannabis worth an estimated £1 million in Belfast. The discovery was made during searches in the south of the city on Thursday, 09 August. A 37-year-old woman was arrested in Stranmillis and a 48-year-old man was detained on the Lisburn Road. They are being held in police custody.

Man 'Critical' Following Shooting In Co L'Derry
A man is in a critical condition in hospital after he was shot twice in the leg in Co L'Derry. The attack happened in Magowan Park shortly after 9pm on Monday. The man is being treated in hospital for two gunshot wounds to his right leg. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
