Jonesborough man beaten and shot by gang

A man is recovering in hospital after being shot in a paramilitary-style attack in Armagh last night.

The 37-year-old victim was taken from a bar in Jonesborough, south Armagh, by two men at around midnight. When outside, the man was set upon by a gang of around five men who beat him with iron bars. Police said that his attackers then shot him at least five times in the legs.

He is being treated in hospital for gunshot wounds to the legs and for head injuries he received during the attack.

Earlier, at around 10pm, a man was shot in both legs in a paramilitary-style attack in the Whitewell Road area of north Belfast . Six masked men entered a house in the Mulderg Drive area and removed the victim from the house before shooting him in the driveway.

Elsewhere, in what police believe to be a paramilitary-style attack in Antrim town, two masked men shot a 47-year-old man in the leg as he left a shop in the Parkhall Estate area at about 9.20pm.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
