Two Major Road Improvement Schemes Announced

The Department for Infrastructure has announced details of two major road improvement schemes in Ballygowan and Newtownards.

A £230,000 road improvement scheme on the C272 Carrickmannon Road and C367 Church Hill, Ballygowan will begin on Tuesday, 08 May.

The resurfacing scheme will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of the carriageway on a 0.85km section of the 'C class' road in Ballygowan. Work is expected to be completed by the end of May.

To help ensure the safety of road users and contractors it will be necessary to operate temporary traffic signals and road closures during the course of the improvements.

Phase 1 of the scheme will include only Carrickmannon Road from its junction with Moss Road towards Bog Road junction. Traffic seeking access to Carrickmannon Road will be diverted via Moss Road, Ballybunden Road, Balloo Hamlet, Saintfield Road, Kilcarn Road and Carrickmannon Road.

Phase 2 of the scheme will include only Church Hill from the Comber Road Roundabout to its junction with Moss Road. Further details of the diversion route will be published at a later date.

Local access will be maintained and all diversions and restrictions will be clearly signposted.

The planned dates for the scheme are subject to favourable weather conditions and the Department will keep the public informed of any change.

Separately, in Newtownards, a £155,000 road improvement scheme at B0172 Movilla Road, will also begin on Tuesday, 08 May.

The resurfacing scheme will improve the strength and surface quality of the carriageway on a 1.2km section of this important 'B class' road in Newtownards. Work is expected to be completed by the end of May.

Traffic seeking access to Movilla Road will be diverted via Upper Gransha Road, Donaghadee Road and Movilla Road.

Local access will be maintained and all diversions and restrictions will be clearly signposted.
