PSNI Appeal For Information On Newtownabbey Security Alert
The Alliance Party has condemned those behind a viable pipe bomb found during a recent security alert in Newtownabbey.
A suspicious object was discovered in the garden of a home at Arthur Avenue on Sunday, 06 May.
A number of homes in the area were evacuated while police investigated the device.
The device was found to be a viable pipe bomb, which was made safe and removed for further examination.
Police have issued an appeal for information regarding the incident to contact them on 101, or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Alliance's Newtownabbey Councillor, Billy Webb, condemned those behind a pipe bomb found during the security alert.
He said: "This alert caused massive upheaval on a Sunday morning for many residents and those behind it must be condemned in the strongest possible terms. Their actions achieve nothing except causing annoyance to the vast majority of people.
"The area is close to a playground and has many children living there, so this incident could have had even more severe consequences. I am grateful to the authorities involved in dealing with matter, including the Council for putting their emergency plan into operation by evacuating residents to the Valley Leisure Centre.
"If anyone has any information on the people behind this device, I urge them to go to police immediately."
